The support pistons for the rear boot lid are actually gas struts. Over time, the internal seals may deteriorate, causing gas to escape and consequently losing the strut's ability to support the weight of the boot lid, which will tend to fall rather than stay in position, also preventing it from being held during the closing manoeuvre and making it difficult to open. Replacing these struts is very simple, but it is advisable to check right away that the new struts have the same type of attachment and length. Once the boot is open, extract the anchoring tab from the ball joint and remove the old strut, then insert the new one, securing it with the relevant clips.
