Shock Absorber Mount Replacement

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

If you hear a squeaking noise from the engine bay that increases while driving on uneven surfaces, it is likely that the shock absorber mount has failed. To carry out this maintenance, ensure you have the appropriate clamps to compress the shock absorber spring. Lift the vehicle on a ramp, remove the front wheel, and detach the lower pin that secures the shock absorber to the hub mount. Then access the engine bay, remove the plastic cover located just below the windscreen to reach the body dome, and unscrew the mounting nuts of the mount. Next, apply the clamps to the spring to keep it compressed, allowing you to remove the mount and replace it. Finally, reverse the steps for reinstallation.
