Replacement of Front Shock Absorber Springs

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005
Part: Suspension system

To replace the front shock absorber springs, you must remove the shock absorbers themselves; lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift and remove the front wheel; then remove the fixing pin of the shock absorber eyelet from the hub support; lower the vehicle to access the engine bay, remove the plastic grille located just below the windscreen to reach the shock absorber turret; unscrew the fixing nuts of the support flange and extract the shock absorber from its seat; then compress the spring with suitable clamps, remove the support plate, extract the old spring and insert the new one while still compressed by the clamps; secure the support flange and release the spring; finally, reinstall the shock absorber in reverse order.
