To replace the gear knob on a Volkswagen Golf, you need to lever off the plastic cover located at the base of the gear lever. This will allow you to fully lift the leather gaiter and detach the ring connecting the knob to the gaiter: this way, the knob can be removed, and you can disconnect the connector beneath the plastic cover, removing it completely. Now, you can insert the new gaiter, connect its connector, and secure the knob to the end of the lever.
