In order to replace the automatic gear shift knob of the Volkswagen Golf, you need to use an object to pry off the plastic cover at the base of the gear shift lever. This will allow you to lift up the leather boot completely and disconnect the connecting ring between the knob and the boot. By doing this, the knob can be extracted and the connector underneath the plastic cover can be disconnected, removing it entirely. Now, you can insert the new boot, connect its connector, and secure the knob to the end of the lever.
