This video provides useful tips for changing the timing belt on a Volkswagen Golf VI: There is a small hole in the tensioner bearing that houses a tool, which is used to set the correct position for the tensioner. Insert the pins into the camshaft, loosen the pulleys clockwise; secure the crankshaft with its specific tool. Now take a 6 mm hex key and pull the tensioner fully without the belt, which will then fit in easily. Place a 16 mm spanner between the belt and the oil pump to ensure it doesn’t fall; be mindful of the belt's direction of rotation, the numbers should move clockwise.
