Volkswagen Passat - Video tutorial

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005
Part: Steering rods
Operation: How to replace the steering tie rod ends of the VW Passat 5.

Replacing the steering heads of the Volkswagen Passat, model B5, is a fairly simple operation that can be done independently, thanks to our short video tutorial that will guide you through the steps to replace them. Let's begin the replacement operation by removing the tire cover and then the wheel itself. Continue the disassembly of the wheel by lifting the vehicle and then clean the fastening element that connects the heads to the ball joint. After cleaning with a 15mm socket wrench, unscrew the stem attachment nut from the ball joint and remove the fastening bolts. Use a hammer and chisel to remove the stem. At this point, loosen the counter nut that attaches the tie rod to the bar with an 18mm and a 22mm wrench. Unscrew the stem and screw in a new steering rod head. Treat the threaded part of the rod with copper grease and insert it to connect the stem to the ball joint, screw the nut with a 13mm wrench and mount the bolt, tighten the locking nut and the counter nut. Tighten the various bolts and reassemble the wheel.
