Disassembly of Upper Wishbone

Model: Volkswagen Passat 3BG, B5 - Years 1996-2005

The upper wishbone of the front suspension in this vehicle has a rather unique geometry, consisting of two links that extend from the shock absorber mount to the hub support, which is also connected to the steering rack tie rod. The two ball joint ends of the links are secured with a pin that passes through a groove on the joint shaft, preventing accidental removal and securing them in a sort of clamp. To disassemble them, a special tool is required that fits onto the clamp after removing the side nut, allowing for the extraction of the pin and the opening of the clamp to facilitate the removal of the joints. In the absence of this tool, a few well-placed hammer blows can achieve roughly the same effect.
