- Years 2012-2019 Good morning! Today we are here to replace the timing belt on our Volkswagen Golf. To begin, we position the car on a flat surface and make sure the engine is cold. Carefully remove the engine cover and disassemble the air filter system, as well as the cover that protects the timing belt. Once this step is completed, loosen the belt tensioner pulley and remove the old belt. Now we are ready to install the new timing belt, simply following these steps in reverse order. And so, we will have successfully completed the replacement process.
