Like all filters on the Volkswagen Golf 4, the fuel filter also needs to be replaced. To replace the petrol filter independently, first open the external fuel tank cap and then lift the vehicle.

With the vehicle raised, remove the filter by unscrewing the nut that secures it and the corresponding connector; you will need a Torx key and some clips for this. Once you have replaced the filter, lower the vehicle, close the fuel tank cap, and proceed to the nearest petrol station to refuel if desired.
