Removing the Rear Axle

Model: Volvo Xc90 MK 1 - Years 2002-2014

Lift the vehicle using a lift or appropriate jack stands. Remove the rear wheel corresponding to the axle you will be repairing; unscrew the bolt located at the center of the hub, which secures the axle to the hub itself; using a punch and hammer, tap the center of the axle to retract it a few inches. At this point, using the appropriate puller, remove the ball joint connected to the hub and complete the extraction of the axle from the hub; then remove the intermediate support of the axle near the boot on the transmission side and extract the axle from the transmission, ensuring that the end of the axle itself is intact.
