Removing the Centre Tunnel on Volvo V50-V40

Model: Volvo V50 MK 1 - Years 2004-2012

Although this example shows a Volvo V50, the procedure is the same for the V40. Use a plastic wedge to pry off the outer frame of the dashboard display, leveraging it in the gaps. Next, unscrew the screws surrounding the screen and remove it, remembering to disconnect the two associated connectors. To remove the gear knob, simply press it lightly and twist, while the gaiter can be pulled off from the base (again using the plastic wedge). To disassemble the rear part of the centre tunnel, open the glove compartment, remove the plate with the connected connector, and unscrew the screws underneath.
