Replacing the Timing Belt on an Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 Petrol

Today, you will learn how to change the timing belt on an Alfa Romeo 156 1.6 petrol engine. It is advisable to purchase the complete kit, including the water pump, as it may fail soon if not replaced. First, remove the old water pump by unscrewing the two bolts that hold it firmly to the engine block. At this point, you can fit the new water pump by screwing in the 2 new bolts, and always secure the fixed tensioner pulley and the movable tensioner pulley to the crankshaft using a torque wrench. Insert the belt, positioning it under the crankshaft and following the route: fixed tensioner, exhaust pulley, intake pulley, water pump, and finally movable tensioner; it is important to install the belt in the correct direction. Tension the belt to maximum tension using a special tool, then take the torque wrench and tighten all the gears where the belt has passed. Use a 19mm spanner to turn the crankshaft twice, and then simply set the belt to a medium tension.
