Why Audi and Golf with Transverse Engines are Noisy at the Front

As the YouTuber explains, many VAG group cars with transverse engines (MQB platform and earlier) have this issue of excessive noise coming from the front, especially on uneven roads or at low speeds. The problem is related to the isolation of the transverse engine, but the engine mounts and wishbones play a key role as they are made of hard rubber, which improves stability but transmits more vibrations to the cabin; moreover, over time they harden even more, and the transverse-mounted engine has an unbalanced weight at the front. This way, the vibrations from the engine and gearbox are transmitted directly to the body. Particularly on the Golf VII, this problem arises after 100,000 miles. The solution is to replace the engine mounts with softer versions, check the engine supports, and possibly inspect the soundproofing of the engine bay and wheel arch.
