Cleaning the EGR Valve and Intake Manifold

Model: Audi A6 MK 3, C6 - Years 2004-2012

If you experience engine performance issues, excessive smoke, and sometimes difficulty starting, there is likely a problem with clogging in the EGR valve. This valve is located right at the entrance of the intake manifold and is connected to the exhaust manifold through a flanged pipe; its function is to reintroduce some exhaust gases back into the intake. The constant contact with exhaust gases and possible oil leaks cause it to become dirty. Start by removing the EGR valve, first taking off the shut-off valve (which looks like a throttle body and is connected to the intercooler hose), and then remove the intake manifold. Clean both the valve and the manifold thoroughly, then reinstall everything in reverse order.
