In this video, we can see that to prevent dust and dirt from entering the ventilation system of the BMW 520 E39, there are two filters mounted on the intake ducts: to keep them efficient, we must periodically replace the filter elements. Open the hood of the engine compartment; at both ends of the base of the windshield, there are the filter housings.

Open one of the covers and remove the old filter, close the intake duct with a rag, and clean the box with a blast of compressed air. Position the new filter and close the cover. Repeat the same steps with the other housing.
