How do you unlock the automatic transmission of the BMW X3?

Model: BMW X3 MK 2, F25 - Years 2010-2017

In order to unlock the automatic transmission of the BMW X3, you need to open the rear hatch and remove the trim panel at the base of the trunk: underneath it you will find a red key that must be used to unlock the automatic transmission. You will need to remove the trim panel on the inside of the cup holder: this way you can insert the red key into the corresponding lock and turn it. By doing so, the transmission will be unlocked and you can move the selector to the desired position; finally, you can close the compartment again by inserting the panel.
