Power Steering Pump Replacement

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

If you often need to top off the power steering fluid reservoir, it means there is a leak in the hydraulic system (pump, hoses, steering gear).
The power steering pump is located in the engine compartment, at the front lower right: when lifting the vehicle on a lift, the power steering pump pulley is the first one on the right. Disconnect the auxiliary belt, remove the drive pulley of the pump, and then the pump itself: the leak is generally due to wear on the seal located on the drive shaft. Replace the pump with a new or refurbished one, and consider replacing the hoses and the fluid reservoir, which contains the filter.
