To replace the trunk lock on the BMW 3 Series, lift the trunk and remove the inner cover to access the underlying parts. Once the cover is removed, loosen the screws securing the lock and disconnect the cables from the holes near the pistons that allow the trunk to lift. After the old lock and its cables have been removed, connect new cables to the respective contacts, route them inside the trunk, and connect them to the new lock, which should be properly secured.
