Fitting LED Bulbs on a BMW 1 Series

To install LED bulbs on your 1 Series, access the wheel arch, where you can easily reach the cap that allows access to the dipped beam headlamp. Remove the connector, then the bulb, and pull out the adapter, which simply clips in place. This is because LED lamps usually have their specific adapter that must be overlaid. The connection is: lamp, lamp connector, vehicle connector. The lamp connector is only there to prevent the warning light from illuminating, so it may or may not be needed. Before proceeding to the final fitting, perform a test with the ignition on. Now fit the LED lamp adapter over the vehicle adapter. Before fitting the lamp to the vehicle, open the heat sinks, creating a wave so that heat can dissipate. Now insert the lamp and close the cap. This will have replaced the dipped beam headlamp. Access the main beam headlamp from the engine bay, through a cap located directly above the headlamp itself. The first bulb you find is the daytime running light, which we do not need to replace but must remove to avoid breaking it. It is a bayonet fitting, so it pulls out easily. Below this, you will find the main beam light; to remove it, proceed with extreme caution, applying pressure with a screwdriver until the lever releases the adapter. Follow the same procedure as for the dipped beam headlamp to remove the bulb. Connect the lamp control unit connector. Again, perform a test with the ignition on to check that the headlamp warning light does not illuminate. If it does, you need to fit the connector as well. Once everything is clipped back into place (you will need to work with the heat sinks as for the dipped beam), you can refit the daytime running light and close the cap. Now you can do the same on the other side, remembering where you fitted the connector and where you did not, because what you did on one side, you must do on the other.
