To replace the steering angle sensor on the BMW X5, you must completely disassemble the steering column. First, remove all the trim pieces around the column, including the center airbag and the steering wheel.

Then, extract the steering column from its housing, and you can remove the sensor located at mid-height by unscrewing its mounting bolts and disconnecting its connector. This will allow you to install a new sensor, reassemble the steering column, and reinstall the trim panels and the steering wheel.
