In order to replace the handbrake button on the BMW X5, you need to pry with an object, so that you can detach the molding that surrounds the central tunnel: when this has been removed, it will be possible to proceed by loosening the screws that fix the panel on which the handbrake button is installed. The latter can now be removed by disconnecting the underlying connector and unscrewing the screws that fix the old button to the panel: the new replacement button can then be fixed to the panel; at this point the connector can be connected, fixing the panel and also repositioning the moulding.
