Check Functionality of the Contact Switch

If the engine does not start when turning the ignition key to the start position, specifically if the starter motor does not engage, before assuming there is a problem with the starter motor itself, check the efficiency of the contact switch behind the ignition lock. Remove the protective covers around the turn signal switch to access the connector of the switch. Use a multimeter to check for voltage at the various contacts (it is better to obtain the wiring diagram). Connect the multimeter ground to the vehicle chassis, set it to direct current, 20 Volt scale, and check for voltage at the contacts.
