To reset the service lights on a BMW E46, follow this procedure: turn off the car, once off, press and hold the reset button located to the left of the instrument cluster, at this point while holding the button, turn the key to position 1 and hold the button for 5 seconds until the service message appears. When the service message appears, release and press the button again until the RESET message starts flashing, at this point release the button and press it again when the message reappears during the flashing.
