Removal and Replacement of the Transmission Cover

First, shift the gear lever into neutral. In this position, press down on the lower front part of the knob and pull up to remove the lever from its housing.

Now, use a plastic lever to unclip the cover from the sides to remove the clips. Disconnect the three electrical connectors attached to the cover.

Pull the cover from its position. If desired, you can separate the cover from the leather trim.

To do this, simply press the two clips holding the leather in place and separate it from the cover. The maintenance operation shown in the images is performed on a BMW 3 Series.
