Removing the Starter Motor

Model: BMW Serie 3 E46 - Years 1998-2006

Before proceeding with the removal of the starter motor, it is recommended to disconnect the battery; the starter is mounted on the transmission case using torx-type bolts: therefore, unscrew the mounting bolts of the starter from the bell housing, disconnect the power cables from the relay, and carefully extract the starter from its location, taking care not to damage the o-ring gasket. During maintenance of the starter motor (brush replacement), protect the corresponding area on the transmission with a clean rag to prevent debris from entering.
