To replace the license plate bulb on a BMW 3 Series, pry off the light assembly using a tool to remove it from its housing above the license plate. Once removed, disconnect the connector and pull out the bulb inside.

After the old bulb is removed, insert the new one into the light assembly. Then, reconnect the connector and push it back into its housing.
