To replace the battery of the BMW 1 Series key (models E81, E82, E87, MK 1), follow these steps: Remove the metal key: Press the button at the bottom of the key to release the metal key. Open the key cover: Use a flathead screwdriver to pry at the designated pressure point on the key insertion part. Lift to remove the battery cover. Replace the battery: Remove the old battery and replace it with a new one of the same size and voltage (usually CR 2032). Close the key: Reinsert the emergency key into its slot and press with your hands to close the cover.
