How to change oil and filter on the BMW Series 3 E46

In this video, see how to change the engine oil on a BMW Series 3 E46: first, open the oil filler cap and pull up the dipstick. You will need to lift the vehicle to access the oil pan located underneath; get a drain pan to collect the used oil. Dispose of it at an authorized center.

While the oil drains, take care of the filter. Go back up and use a wrench to open the cover and pull out the filter; this should also be placed on a tray to avoid spilling oil on the engine.

Remove the gasket from the cover, which you will clean with WD-40. Install the new gasket and insert the new filter, then close the cap. Now go back under the vehicle. Clean thoroughly and then install new cap and gasket.

Lower the vehicle and pour 6.5 quarts of SAE 5W-40 into the oil reservoir, then check the level. Close the cap and run the engine for a few minutes, then recheck the level.

If it is between min and max, you are good to go.
