Timing Belt Replacement

Replacing the timing belt requires a basic understanding of general mechanics, as an assembly error could compromise the engine. It is advisable to lift the vehicle on a hydraulic lift, remove the front right wheel, the splash guard, disconnect the auxiliary belt, remove the crankshaft pulley, and then the plastic cover of the timing belt (you will also need to remove the engine side mount). At this point, align the timing marks before loosening the tensioner and removing the belt, inserting a pin to secure the camshaft pulley and marking the position of the crankshaft pulley with a marker (remember or note the routing of the belt over the pulleys); you can now proceed with fitting the new belt.
