How to Replace the Alternator on a Citroen 2CV Mehari

To replace the alternator on a Citroen 2CV Mehari, first disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Then, proceed to remove the protective grille of the fan. Using a 14 mm spanner, loosen the bolt securing the fan pulley. With a sharp blow from a hammer, detach the pulley. At this point, remove the alternator belt cover and the belt itself. Disconnect the positive wire from the alternator and then remove the securing screws. When replacing the alternator, it is advisable to also replace the belt, which will be positioned while mounting the alternator. Refit the large securing bolt without tightening it. Place the belt onto the pulley groove and tension the alternator for tightening. Reattach the fan pulley. For tightening, insert the screwdriver tip into the flywheel teeth. Adjust the belt tension in its housing: an overly tight belt can damage the bearing inside the alternator. Connect the positive wire to the alternator and place the belt protector. Tighten the nuts and check the alignment. Refit the protective grille. Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
