Citroen Mehari - Video tutorial

Model: Citroen Mehari MK 1 - Years 1968-1987
Part: Alternator
Operation: How to replace the alternator on the Citroen 2CV Mehari

How to replace the alternator on the Citroen 2Cv Mehari. The first thing to do, as always, is to disconnect the negative pole of the battery. Then we can proceed to remove the fan guard. Using a 14mm wrench, loosen the bolt securing the fan pulley. With a firm blow of a hammer, detach the pulley. At this point, remove the alternator belt protection and consequently the belt. Disconnect the positive wire of the alternator and then the fixing screws. When replacing the alternator, it is advisable to also replace the belt, which will be positioned when mounting the alternator. Put the large fixing bolt back in place without tightening it. Insert the belt onto the groove of the pulley and tighten the alternator for fastening. Reassemble the fan pulley. To tighten it, place the tip of a screwdriver in the teeth of the flywheel. Adjust the tension of the belt in its housing: a belt that is too tight can damage the bearing inside the alternator. Connect the positive wire of the alternator and place the belt protector. Bring the nuts close together and check the alignment. Reassemble the fan guard. Reconnect the negative pole of the battery.
