Video tutorial

On the Citroën Xsara Picasso, the battery is not located in the engine bay but under the driver's seat. To access it, slide the seat all the way back, remove the headrest, and recline the backrest (to prevent it from hitting the steering wheel).

Press the two metal tabs on the sides of the seat tracks and tilt the seat forward. Remove the plastic cover and the securing bracket (10 mm bolt).

Note the order: disconnect the negative terminal (black) first, then the positive (red). The video suggests the opposite, but this is dangerous: disconnecting the positive first risks sparks and damage to the electrical system. Remove the battery, clean the terminals with sandpaper, and apply copper grease.

Insert the new battery (same specifications: 12V, size, Ah, and CCA). Reconnect the positive first, then the negative. Refit the bracket, cover, and seat.

It is advisable to use a memory saver connected to the OBD port or cigarette lighter to avoid losing radio and ECU settings.
