It is quite common for the gear lever gaiter to deteriorate due to constant friction from gear changes, as well as the effects of heat and car wash detergents, sometimes even leading to tears; it is therefore advisable to replace it with one made of genuine leather. This operation is very simple but obviously requires the removal of the gear lever knob. Once you have detached the gaiter from the base of the lever, that is, from the relevant fixing frame and from the base of the knob, simply grasp the knob and pull it upwards to remove it from the lever.
