In vehicles equipped with an automatic gearbox, it is possible to start the engine and often also remove the ignition key by simply placing the gear lever in the "P" (Parking) position: this is a safety device to ensure the vehicle remains secure both when stationary and during starting. This is possible because there is a connection between the gear lever and the ignition lock, which has a button that unlocks when the gear lever is in P. By removing the lower cover of the indicator stalk, you can access the ignition lock and intercept this red button.
