Replacing the Timing Belt on a Fiat 1.9 JTD Engine

The replacement of the timing belt and the related kit including tensioner, bearing, and water pump should be carried out by qualified personnel as an error could severely damage the engine; start by disconnecting the battery, removing the plastic cover on the engine, take off the front right wheel to access the crankshaft pulley, remove the auxiliary belt, take off the side engine support and then the plastic cover protecting the belt; remove the crankshaft pulley and rotate the crankshaft to align the timing marks; loosen the tensioner and remove the toothed belt before taking off the tensioner and the water pump; proceed in reverse to install the new kit, ensuring to maintain the timing marks and the tensioner adjustment; before starting the engine, fill the cooling system with the appropriate coolant.
