How to replace the gear knob on a Ford Escape or Kuga

In this video, we see how to replace the gear knob on a Ford Escape (or Kuga) III; the video refers to an automatic car, but the operation is also valid for a manual gearbox: obviously, there will be no electrical connections for the latter. We remove the frame that holds the gear lever boot, disconnect the lighting connector for the gear positions, and then disconnect the gear connector. We lift up the boot and see the two Philips screws that need to be carefully removed, as they are very short. Now we can remove the boot and knob. We detach the boot from the knob shaft by releasing the two spring-loaded tabs. We can find the new knob, for example, on Fruugo with the code 325755997-721139642 at a price of 38.95 euros + 14.49 euros for shipping. Now we put everything back together, reattaching the lever with the boot, then reattaching the two Philips screws with the shaft and reconnecting the connectors. We put the frame back in place and the job is done.
