How to change the battery of a Ford Focus MK4

The procedure for changing the battery in the Ford Focus MK4 is a bit more complex because the battery is semi-hidden under the air filter. First, let's locate the battery and disconnect the negative terminal, then remove the plastic support that is above the battery by unscrewing the torx screws that hold the support in place. Disconnect any electrical connectors and remove the support. Also disconnect the positive terminal, remove the side fastening, and then remove the air filter by unscrewing the 7 mm nut that secures the air hose to the filter, unlock the plastic clips, lift the entire air filter assembly, and move the whole assembly without disconnecting the MAF sensor. Now the battery is fully accessible and we can take it out. Clean the cable terminals, position the new battery with its side fastening, and connect the positive terminal first and then the negative one; reassemble the plastic support and then the air filter. Close the hood and start the car. If necessary, reset the settings (windows, climate, clock); the start & stop system may need a few driving cycles to reactivate.
