Changing the transmission oil on the Focus? Here’s how to change the oil. Position your car on a column lift and raise it to a comfortable height for disassembly. To change the transmission oil, unscrew the bolt located on the transmission using a socket wrench. Once the bolt is removed, let the fluid drain into a container. Refit the bolt on the transmission with the wrench, then unscrew the refill bolt located on the side of the transmission (near the wheel). Refill the transmission sump with the appropriate fluid.
