Air Intake Sensor Check

Model: Ford Mondeo / Fusion MK 1 - Years 1993-2000

The sensor in question is generally located after the air filter. It sends a signal indicating the amount of air entering the cylinders to the ECU. The sensor has a connector with 4 wires: 2 for ground, one for power, and one that sends the signal to the ECU. Using a multimeter set to 20 V DC, turn on the car's ignition and identify the power wire by connecting the multimeter's connector to the black wire (usually the ground) and the second to another wire from the sensor until the multimeter reads about 12 V, usually the red wire. If the multimeter probes do not fit well into the sensor connectors, use pins to facilitate reading. Now, identify the wire that transmits the airflow information to the ECU by connecting the negative of the multimeter to ground and checking which wire has a small residual voltage, even 0.01 V. When the engine is running, the voltage will increase based on the engine RPM. This way, you have identified the function of the wires on the air sensor.
