Another common issue could be a blown fuse: the fuse is located in the internal fuse box, which is in the driver's side glove compartment: consult your vehicle's manual (it should be number #11) and check if it is blown. If so, replace it with an identical one. If the system activates but emits a continuous beep when you engage reverse, it is likely that a sensor is faulty: if you suspect a wiring issue, you will need to remove the rear bumper to visually inspect the cables and connectors.
