Then check that it doesn't emit smoke from the exhaust; also, ensure the suspension isn't too noisy; check that the brake has minimal play; take it for a test drive while checking the gearbox and simultaneously ensure the differential doesn't make strange noises, especially in lower gears.

Check that the headlights and indicators are functioning correctly, as well as all the lights on the dashboard, and that no warning lights remain illuminated.

Additionally, check for any play in the gear lever. Lastly, but by no means least, ensure the tyres are in good condition.
