How to Replace the Spark Plugs on a Jeep Compass 2.4 MK1

Here’s how to replace the spark plugs on a Jeep Compass 2.4: ensure the new spark plugs are suitable for this engine, which must be completely cold for work. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery and remove the engine cover. Work on one coil at a time to avoid mixing up the leads. Disconnect the electrical connector; some connectors have a red tab that must be lifted before pressing the main latch. Unscrew the retaining screw holding the coil and pull it out of its well. Using a socket with an extension, unscrew the spark plug counterclockwise and extract it without dropping it. Install the new spark plug in the well, preferably by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with a torque wrench set to 20 Nm. Refit the coil in the well, replace the retaining screw, reconnect the electrical connector, repeat for the other spark plugs, then reassemble the engine cover and reconnect the negative battery cable.
