A common fault on the Jeep Renegade is the electronic handbrake locking up; this issue is related to electrical systems, not mechanical faults. In some cases, the handbrake may become stuck, leaving the car immobilised. The most common check involves the battery, which is the most frequent cause; a flat battery can cause the electronic modules, including the EPB, to malfunction. Perform a load test on the battery and replace it if necessary; remember that re-learning procedures may be required after replacement. Battery connections can also loosen, creating an intermittent connection. You can also attempt to reset the ECU by disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery, waiting 15-20 minutes for the capacitors to discharge completely, reconnecting the terminal, and checking if the warning has disappeared. You will need to reset the radio stations and reprogram the windows.
