How to Replace the Spare Wheel on a Jeep Cherokee

This guide shows how to replace the flat wheel with the spare on a Jeep Cherokee. The owner's manual explains the procedure in detail, including the location of tools and jacking points for the vehicle. The first step is to secure the vehicle and, if on the road, use warning devices as stated in the Highway Code. At this point, retrieve the jack and spare wheel. Depending on the model, these two items may have slightly different locations; however, they are located in the boot. The spare wheel may be placed under the rear compartment protection panel, and extraction is similar to other cars, or it may be located under the chassis. In the latter position, it must be lowered using the screw at the bottom of the boot. Now you can extract the wheel from under the vehicle and prepare to replace it. Loosen the bolts on the damaged wheel and lift the car at the designated points. Finish unscrewing the wheel bolts and replace it with the new one. Tighten the bolts until secure but not fully; lower the car and tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern. The use of the spare wheel is restricted to the journey to a specialist centre to remount the original wheel, and exceeding a certain speed limit indicated on the spare wheel rim is not recommended.
