To replace the gear knob on a Land Rover Freelander 2, use a tool to lever off the plastic cover on the centre console that surrounds the lever. Once removed, lift it along with the leather gaiter covering the gear lever. Underneath, you will find a clip that connects the gaiter to the panel. By removing this clip, you can detach the gaiter from the knob, allowing it to be pulled off the top of the lever, along with the gaiter. After removal, you can install the new replacement parts.
