Check Glow Plugs on Land Rover Discovery

Glow plugs are simply electric resistors that heat up when the ignition is turned on to preheat the combustion chamber, creating optimal thermodynamic conditions for cold starting a diesel engine, where combustion occurs through the self-ignition of the air-diesel mixture generated by the compression of that mixture by the pistons. Since there is no external ignition, it is crucial to preheat the combustion chamber. Therefore, if the engine fails to start in cold conditions, one possible cause could be the malfunction of one or more glow plugs. A quick method to check if the glow plugs are functioning is to ensure they are not open. Connect a test light to the positive terminal of the battery and touch the glow plug power pins inside the connector with the probe: if the light turns on, then the glow plugs are not broken.
