This video shows how to find and repair the reverse light switch on a Defender TD4: the YouTuber mentions that the reverse light was very dim and it was difficult to see clearly while maneuvering. To access the switch, you need to remove the glove compartment and also the floor panel located between the front seats.

This allows you to see inside the transmission and locate the switch, which is near the gear lever on the left side of the vehicle. You need to remove it with a 22 millimeter wrench; if the light emitted is weak, you need to replace it. You can find the part, for example, on eBay with the code 223237108257 for $14.64 plus $8 shipping.
