How to Change the Oil and Oil Filter in a Lincoln MKZ

To change the oil and oil filter in a Lincoln MKZ, start by going under the vehicle. Using a socket wrench, remove the bolts holding the skid plate and also take off the plastic clips to remove the skid plate. Once the plate is off, use a socket wrench to unscrew the oil drain plug, allowing the oil to drain into a container. After the oil has drained, use the appropriate wrench to remove the oil filter, placing a container underneath to catch any oil. After draining the oil from the filter seat, take the new oil filter, pour new oil into it, and lubricate the gasket with new oil before screwing it into place. After installing the new oil filter, reinstall the skid plate by tightening the bolts and inserting the plastic clips. Once the plate is back on, go to the top of the vehicle, open the oil filler cap, pour in the specified quarts of oil, and when you’re close to the recommended amount, check the level with the dipstick. If necessary, top off the oil; otherwise, close the oil filler cap, and the job is complete.
