How to check the thickness of the brake pads on the Mercedes C-Class W204, and determine their remaining life
Model: Mercedes Classe C
W204
- Years 2007-2013
In this video we can see how to check the thickness of the brake pads on the Mercedes C-Class W204 version: let's start with the front axle. We need to remove the wheel, and we see that the brake caliper is held in place by two screws, which we will need to remove. We will hang the caliper with a spring, so that the flexible hose does not strain. Now we remove the gaskets, which have different markings to distinguish the direction of rotation, and are provided with a notch to measure the thickness with a specific tool: we can find this tester for example on E-Bay with code 175834526150 at a price of 9.95 euros + 5.95 euros for shipping. To measure the remaining wear of the pads, knowing their thickness, we must subtract 3 mm which correspond to the maximum wear limit. In our case, the pads measure 8 mm, and we know that the pads wear out by 1 mm every 4,000 km, so we can still drive 32,000 km. On the rear axle, the pads have a longer lifespan, about 6,000 km for each mm. Obviously these are only indicative values.

How to Adjust the Handbrake on a BMW 1 Series?
To adjust the handbrake on a BMW 1 Series, use a tool to pry off the leather cover that wraps around the base of the handbrake lever. Once this cover is removed, you will be able to locate the spring that regulates the handbrake tension. At this point, adjust the nut located at the base of the spring: tightening the nut will make the handbrake firmer and reduce the lever's travel. Conversely, loosening the nut will decrease the handbrake's firmness and increase the lever's travel. by ScegliAuto More videos
