Analysis of the G-7 Tronic 722.9 Mercedes 7-speed transmission

The 7-speed G-7 TRONIC (722.9) transmission from Mercedes is a very common transmission in the German manufacturer's vehicles from the 2000s to 2010. It is a classic automatic transmission with a torque converter found in the C, E, S, ML, and GL classes, both gasoline and diesel. It is a very robust transmission that is well appreciated by customers. Like all Mercedes transmissions, it has the advantage of being built and updated directly by the manufacturer. However, if maintenance is neglected, like all mechanical components, it can develop problems over time: harsh or delayed shifts with ODB errors such as P2714 (solenoid) or P0730 (incorrect gear ratio); wear of the torque converter with vibrations under acceleration, caused by oil contaminated with metallic particles, which requires a complete flushing of the hydraulic circuit; oil leaks on the floor with damage to the gears and overheating; wear of the clutches with grinding noises, caused by overheating of the oil that has never been replaced. To avoid problems, a service should be scheduled to replace the oil and filter every 60,000 to 80,000 km.
