The timing belt is a crucial engine component that transmits motion from the crankshaft to the camshaft, also known as the timing shaft. One or more shafts make up the timing system. Their movement controls the opening and closing of the valves that regulate the intake of the air-fuel mixture and the exhaust of gases. The timing in the vehicle must be perfectly synchronized with other moving elements of the engine, particularly the pistons. Incorrect synchronization can lead to significant engine malfunction and the possibility of "collision" between valves and pistons, resulting in breakage or severe damage to mechanical parts and high repair costs. Its rupture almost always causes significant damage to the engine: breaking of pistons, valves, the crankshaft, and sometimes even the water pump. For this vehicle, the manufacturer recommends replacement every 75,000 miles.
